Nick Kyrgios: A Struggle Beyond the Court

Do you think this is the last we see of Kyrgios? 

Nick Kyrgios has expressed his fatigue and reluctance to continue playing tennis due to ongoing injuries in a recent interview. Having missed all four major tournaments in 2023 due to wrist, knee, and foot injuries, Kyrgios announced his decision not to participate in the 2024 Australian Open, the first of next year’s Slams. Despite a successful 2022, where he reached his first Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon and world ranking of 11, injuries have plagued him, leading to surgeries and an exhaustion with the recovery process.  

Kyrgios, who has also battled with mental health struggles causing him to consider quitting the sport entirely in 2019, the Aussie stating “That period in 2019 accelerated my exhaustion and almost pushed me to the end of my career a bit earlier’. Kyrgios emphasised feeling tired, in pain, and hinted he would likely retire in the next two years, furthering that he would like his career on his terms ‘I think I’ll be at peace with everything I’ve achieved.’
